Dashlane Announces Biometrics to Unlock Passkeys Everywhere

  |  Mahnaz Majeed

Passkeys are a simple and secure way to log into websites and apps. Each passkey a user creates is tied to a specific account and can be unlocked with biometrics, making logging in as simple and fast as a fingerprint tap or FaceID glance. Many companies are opting to implement passkeys as a convenient alternative to passwords for logging in.

Some websites want to make sure the user is who they say they are by adding "user verification" (UV) when saving or signing in with a passkey. Until now, Dashlane has performed user verification on the browser extension by requiring users to enter their Master Password. But as technology evolves, so does our product: Dashlane users can now unlock passkeys with biometrics in our browser extension.

Our new passkey feature allows users to utilize biometrics or their preferred user verification method when saving or signing in with a passkey. Biometric-enabled devices offer an additional layer of security by utilizing local biometric data, such as fingerprint or facial recognition, or a device PIN for authentication.

With this capability, we aim to cater to a broader range of user preferences and device capabilities with a seamless and efficient authentication process, making securing your accounts more accessible and even more convenient.

Passkeys are also more secure than traditional login methods. They’re designed to protect against phishing attacks that try to steal passwords. By using a passkey, users can reduce the risk of falling into phishing traps and improve their overall security.

Dashlane is continually assessing the evolving passkey technology so we can ensure a safe and user-friendly authentication experience for all users, regardless of their device or authentication setup.
