How Admins Can Simplify Provisioning
Organizations value easy and convenient ways to integrate the necessary tools into their team’s workflow. Unfortunately, provisioning isn’t always a simple process. Luckily, Dashlane offers integrations like SCIM (System for Cross Identity Management) and SSO that simplify the entire provisioning process and encourage employee adoption.
Today’s provisioning challenges
Most modern organizations subscribe to dozens of SaaS platforms and apps in order to run effectively and efficiently. However, that efficiency is put into jeopardy when all those apps have different user management consoles for onboarding, off-boarding, and all the tasks in between. For many IT admins, this means a slew of manual tasks to get an employee provisioned and onboarded, including creating individual user accounts in each app for each employee. And they’ll have to take these same steps in reverse if an employee leaves. Not only is this time consuming, but it can also cause a headache when user identities don’t automatically sync.
SCIM combined with SSO helps to solve all these provisioning challenges.
Update: Dashlane Confidential SSO & Provisioning allows admins to easily set up a credential manager, making it easier for employees to log in to their Dashlane vault safely. Learn more today.
How SCIM simplifies provisioning
SCIM fits seamlessly into IT admins’ workflows, mirroring existing settings, roles, and group configurations. It lets admins automatically provision employees via the organization’s identity provider (IdP), which means an admin only needs to create an employee’s identity within an IdP once and then accounts for that employee will automatically be created for all SCIM-enabled apps.
SCIM allows for user and group attributes to be synced across the many apps that companies use, without admins needing to re-enter user data in each app within the IdP. That way, admins can rest assured that employees automatically have the right permissions and settings in all the apps they need to use. Not only does SCIM help with synchronization, but it also reduces the errors and inconsistencies between multiple systems relating to user identities. Plus, deprovisioning is as simple as removing the former employee from the organization’s IdP.
Introducing SCIM on Dashlane Business—and our most seamless rollout process yet
At Dashlane, we know that a security tool is only as effective as its adoption rate. We strive to remove as much friction as possible so you can get employees up and running quickly and easily—which is why we’re pleased to announce that SCIM is now available on Dashlane Business plans. By enabling SCIM in Dashlane, admins can skip the time-consuming manual task of setting up an employee's account; instead, they can easily automate provisioning in a way that integrates with their already existing workflows. Plus, enabling SCIM will mean that the user groups and settings an admin has set in their IdP will be mirrored in Dashlane.
On its own, SCIM enables powerful automation that simplifies provisioning (and the equally important deprovisioning when an employee leaves). SCIM becomes even more powerful as a provisioning method when paired with our single sign-on (SSO) integration. While SCIM vastly shortens the time to provide or revoke access on the admin side, SSO vastly speeds up signing in on the employee side. That’s because employees will be able to immediately access their Dashlane app (which was provisioned with SCIM) using the login method and organizational credentials they already use for other work-related apps. Getting licenses and logins into the hands of your team is the first step to company-wide usage—and SCIM and SSO make it easy to onboard employees onto the tools they should be using, like Dashlane.
